Fun, challenges, and laughs await those who participate in this creative competition that brings teams of “product designers,” “marketers,” “engineers,” “buyers,” and of course, “launchers” and “catchers” together to design and build the world’s best catapult.
Number of Participants: 25 – 200
Program Length: 1½ – 2½ hours
Space Required: Indoors or Outdoors
Activity Level: Light to Moderate
Results Attained:
- Thrills and Spills
- Innovation and Creativity
- Resource Management
- Relationship Building
Great For:
- “Launching” New Projects/Products
- Merged Teams
- Getting the Blood Flowing
Teams will use their combined creativity to build a catapult made out of PVC pipes and connectors while, at the same time, making decisions around investments in market research, equipment, and team collaboration.
Each team will have a limited amount of time to design, build, test, and name their catapult; craft a colorful banner that represents their group; and develop a 60 second marketing presentation highlighting the features of their catapult to be presented to the entire group. Points are awarded for the best presentation! The challenge continues as each team lines up to demonstrate their engineering prowess. The goal is to see how far your catapult will propel the object beyond the bounds of Earth’s gravity and into the air. The pressure to perform is high, but so are the laughs as each team attempts to outperform the others. Just when the competitive juices are flowing, a new twist is added. The teams will now have to design and build a personal catapult object catching system with only the materials provided. This time around points are awarded based on distance and the ability to catch the object.
Cheers (and boos) abound! Never have so many people had such a good time!
